Dig Deeper: A Soil Discovery Kit for Grade 3 Students
This kit is a teaching tool to enhance students' understanding and engagement with the world of soils. It begins with the invitation to delve into the story of soil, its central role in sustaining life on earth, and our part to help care for it. Subsequent hands-on activities focus on what soils are made of, the diversity of life soils contain, how soils interact with water, their productive capacity to grow food, as well as an exploration of the root zone and why it is important to protect soils from erosion.

Feeding a Growing World: Exploring Saskatchewan's Role in Global Food Security
Using an inquiry-based model for learning, this interactive resource will increase students’ understanding of food security and explore the opportunities that the Saskatchewan agriculture industry can play in feeding our growing world. The resource features multiple components to enhance the learning experience for students, including a four-part video, an interactive SMART Board game, and classroom activities.
Note: this resource can be used even if you don't have a SMART Board except for the game component.
Feeding the World & Protecting the Environment

Fertilizer 101
Every plant needs nutrients to grow, from corn in Ontario, to peaches in British Columbia, to potatoes in Prince Edward Island, and canola in Saskatchewan. In this lesson students will learn about three important nutrients: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
First-Time Farmers
This resource features four theme days with accompanying lesson plans and materials. Each theme day has a lesson plan, guided activities, materials, and interactive components for students to explore agriculture in Saskatchewan. Each day, students will learn about a specific topic, have a word-work/colouring activity page, and add to their ‘If I Were a Farmer’ poster page!
The first theme is about the basics of farming beginning with the ABCs of Farming presentation. The second theme is all about plants, what they need to grow, and what kind of crops are planted here in Saskatchewan. Students will even get to germinate their own sunflower! The third theme day is focused on animals, the types of farm animals that are raised in Saskatchewan, and what the farm animals eat. Students will get to see real-life examples of the different types of feed for these animals. The final theme day is about food and students growing their understanding of where food comes from by participating in an activity about by-products!
Once your class has completed the four lessons, a certification of completion is included to hand out to your class. Note: There is enough resources in each kit for two Kindergarten classes if you have alternating sections.
